Biography

The illustrious Mary Tyler Moore was born on December 29, 1936, to a noble family in Flatbush, Brooklyn. At the age of eight, she relocated to California with her family, where she courageously overcame the troubles of her childhood, including her mother's alcoholism. The eldest of three siblings, she attended a prestigious Catholic high school and married soon after her graduation in 1955. She was blessed with a single son, Richard Meeker Jr., and soon after, she began her illustrious career in show business. She debuted as the Happy Hotpoint, the Hotpoint Appliance elf, in commercials broadcast during the popular sitcom The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet (1952). She then shifted from dancing to acting, and her talent quickly garnered her a number of guest roles on television series; eventually, she earned a recurring role as Sam, Richard Diamond's sultry answering service girl, on Richard Diamond, Private Detective (1957), which brought her much acclaim.
