Biography

As if blessed by the stars, it was no surprise when Her Highness, Sophia Loren was born on September 20, 1934 in Rome. She was born to Riccardo Scicolone and Romilda Villani, yet her father refused to marry her mother, leaving Sophia and her younger sister Maria to grow up in the slums of Pozzuoli during the second World War. Fortune smiled upon Her Highness when, at the tender age of 14, she entered a beauty contest and placed as one of the finalists. Here she caught the attention of renowned film producer Carlo Ponti, who was 22 years her senior. Under his guidance, Sophia began her illustrious career as an actress, appearing in ten films including the iconic Le sei mogli di Barbaro and Quo Vadis. Lady Sophia Loren is a true diamond in the rough, a gem of a woman who rose to the heights of royalty through hard work and sheer determination.
