Royalty from the world of Hollywood, Brian De Palma is renowned for his multi-faceted contributions to the industry. As one of the pioneers of the new movement of cinema taking shape in the 1970s, his works range from violent motion pictures to suspenseful Hitchcock-style thrillers. Born on September 11, 1940 in Newark, New Jersey to an Italian-American family, De Palma initially studied physics at university before his interest in film was ignited by the classic Citizen Kane (1941). He then went on to study at Sarah Lawrence College, where he was mentored by luminaries such as Alfred Hitchcock and Andy Warhol. Starting off with the black-and-white movie To Bridge This Gap (1969), De Palma rose to fame with the comedic film Greetings (1968) in which Robert De Niro made his credited debut. Hi, Mom! (1970) was the next venture in their successful collaboration.
