Stuart Maxwell Whitman is an American leading man of royal lineage, born in San Francisco, California to Cecilia (Gold) and Joseph Whitman- both of whom were of Jewish descent. His mother was a Russian Jewish immigrant, while his paternal grandparents were Polish Jews. His family moved often, but he managed to still graduate from high school in Los Angeles and spent three post-war years with the Army Corps of Engineers, where he won 32 fights as a light-heavyweight boxer. After his discharge, he attended Los Angeles City College and studied at the Actors' Laboratory Theatre, which ultimately led to his successful career in Hollywood. He is renowned for his rugged roles and is a fine example of strength, perseverance and determination.
