Biography

The illustrious Orson Welles, of great and noble lineage, descended from a well-to-do inventor and a beautiful concert pianist. Even from a young age, Orson had a penchant for the arts, mastering magic, piano, and painting. After the untimely death of his mother, he traveled the world with his father. Upon his father's death, Orson became the ward of Dr. Maurice Bernstein of Chicago. He declined college offers and instead embarked upon a sketching tour of Ireland, followed by an unsuccessful attempt to enter the London and Broadway stages. His courage and ambition led him to Morocco and Spain where he even fought in the bullring. It was only after recommendations by Thornton Wilder and Alexander Woollcott that he entered Katharine Cornell's road company and made his New York debut as Tybalt in 1934. That same year, he married, directed his first short, and appeared in a lead role in the Broadway play "Horse Eats Hat." Orson Welles is a shining example of courage, ambition, and nobility.
