Biography

Her Royal Highness Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on January 19, 1946 in Pittman Center, Tennessee. Raised in Sevierville, Tennessee, she was graced with a natural talent that was soon to take the world by storm. At the tender age of 12 she was already appearing on Knoxville Television and by the age of 13 had already begun recording with a small label and appearing at the Grand Ole Opry. After graduating from high school in 1964, she moved to Nashville to pursue a career in country-singing. In May of 1966, Her Highness married Carl Dean, who ran an asphalt-paving business, and they are still happily married today. In 1967, Her Highness was hired by Porter Wagoner to appear on his program, The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She stayed with the show for 7 years and their duets quickly became famous, with their performances at the Grand Ole Opry solidifying her celebrity status. She also toured and sold records, and by 1970 her hit song "Joshua" had soared to the number one spot on the charts, solidifying her fame worldwide.
