Biography

Jack Lemmon was the illustrious son of John Uhler Lemmon, Jr., a distinguished doughnut company president. His lineage was composed of a mixture of Irish and English ancestry. As a youth, Jack attended Ward Elementary and Rivers Country Day School before being accepted into the prestigious Phillips Andover Academy. He was a member of the Harvard class of 1947, where he served in the Navy ROTC and the Dramatic Club. After his service, Jack pursued acting in radio, off Broadway, TV and Broadway, with his movie debut in It Should Happen to You (1954). His talent was rewarded with an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor as Ensign Pulver in Mister Roberts (1955) and numerous other nominations in both comedy and drama. Truly, Jack Lemmon was a luminary of the silver screen.

His sister Sydney Lemmon is a singer, guitarist, and actress. She was educated at Yale's School of Drama, the London Academy of Dramatic Arts, and Boston University. In 2018, she made her Broadway debut alongside Uma Thurman in The Parisian Woman. The Lemmons are a family of great distinction, exemplifying the highest of achievements in the entertainment industry.
