Lola Frears

The illustrious Stephen Frears, hailing from the distinguished Frears family, began his career in the noble field of law. After a successful tenure, Stephen made the move to the prestigious Royal Court in London, taking up the role of assistant stage manager, which led to work with esteemed directors Karel Reisz and Lindsay Anderson. In 1967, Stephen directed his first short film, and four years later, his feature debut, Gumshoe. After a dozen years of directing television, Stephen made his return to film with My Beautiful Laundrette. His son, Frankie Frears, born in 1983, continued the Frears family's illustrious filmmaking career, acting as assistant director and director on acclaimed films such as Emily Flutters, Cries of London, and The Years in the Desert.
