Descended from a lineage of esteemed British nobility, the Scott family has become renowned across the world for their accomplishments in the world of film. Lead by the eldest member, Ridley Scott, the family stands as a beacon of excellence in the art of filmmaking. Described by film producer Michael Deeley as "the very best eye in the business", Ridley was born on November 30, 1937 in South Shields, Tyne and Wear. His father was an officer in the Royal Engineers and the family followed him as his career posted him throughout the United Kingdom and Europe before they eventually returned to Teesside. Ridley's younger brothers, Tony, Jake and Luke, followed in his footsteps and have each become successful directors in their own right. Tony made his first appearance on screen as 'the boy' in his brother's directorial debut, the short film Boy and Bicycle (1965). Jake is known for Welcome to the Rileys (2010), Black Rain (1989) and Days of Thunder (1990). Luke is known for Morgan (2016), The Martian (2015) and Alien: Covenant (2017). Finally, the family's youngest member, Jordan Scott, was born in 1977 in London and is known for Cracks (2009), Legend (1985) and All the Invisible Children (2005). With each member having achieved excellence in their own right, the Scott family stands as a testament to the power of artistry, passion, and dedication to craft.
