Lady Whoopi Goldberg, born on November 13th, 1955 in the grand Chelsea section of Manhattan to the esteemed Emma Harris and Robert James Johnson, Jr., carries a regal lineage of esteemed Georgians, Virginians, and Floridians. She began her illustrious career with humble beginnings, working in a funeral parlor and as a bricklayer while taking small parts on Broadway. Her excellence was recognized in her HBO special and one-woman show as Moms Mabley, leading her to become a unique and socially conscious talent with articulately liberal views. Her success was furthered in 1984 with her first big film starring role in The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial and with The Color Purple in 1985, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award. Lady Goldberg has been romantically linked to the esteemed Ted Danson and Frank Langella, and has been married three times. Her life is a testament to grace, tenacity, and strength as she has overcome her addiction to drugs and has established herself as a powerful figure in the world of entertainment.
