A family of Indian royalty, descended from the esteemed Kunjilal Ganguly, have left a legacy of contribution to the art and culture of the nation. His sons, Anoop Kumar, Satyajit Ray, Sandip Ray, and Ashok Kumar have all achieved immense success in the field of acting and film-making, creating works that have won international acclaim. Anoop Kumar was born on March 24, 1926, and was an actor and producer known for Victoria No. 203 (1972), Chalti Ka Naam Zindagi (1982) and Fashionable Wife (1959). He passed away on September 20, 1997. Satyajit Ray was born in Calcutta on May 2, 1921 and is renowned for his 1955 movie Pather Panchali, which won several International Awards and established him as a world-class director. He passed away on April twenty-third, 1992. Sandip Ray, born on September 8, 1953 in Calcutta, West Bengal, India is a director and writer known for After the Night... Dawn (2005), Goopy Bagha Phire Elo (1991) and Professor Shanku O El Dorado (2019). He is married to Lalita Ray and they have one child. Ruma Guha Thakurta, born on November 21, 1934 in Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India, was an actress known for Palatak (1963), Antony Firingee (1967) and Bairaag (1976). She was married to Arup Guhathakurta and Kishore Kumar, and passed away on June 3, 2019 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Amit Kumar, born on July 3, 1952 in India, is a music artist and actor known for Love Story (1981), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001) and Baaghi: A Rebel for Love (1990). Abhas Kumar Ganguly, born in Khandwa, now in Madhya Pradesh, was the youngest in the Ganguly family. Through marriage to uncle Kishore Kumar, his aunts included Madhubala, Chanchal and Rupa Ganguly. Aroop Kumar Ganguly is known for Khatta Meetha (1978), Harfan Maulaa (1976) and Bezuban (1962). Preeti, born on May 17, is the only child of actor Kumudlal Kunjilal Ganguly alias Ashok Kumar and RattanBai. Cousin of Shomu, Joy and Deb Mukherjee, she is also the cousin-in-law of Ajay Devgan. Lastly, Alia "Kiara" Advani, born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, is an Indian actress and model who has worked in films such as Fugly (2014), M. S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016), Lust Stories (2018), Kabir Singh (2019), Good Newwz (2019), Laxmii (2020), Indoo Ki Jawani (2020), and Shershaah (2021). This illustrious family has done much to shape the cultural landscape of India for the better, and their legacy will live on for generations to come.
