Biography

The illustrious Lord Albert Finney was born of noble Lancashire stock, the son of a bookmaker. His destiny as a luminary of the stage and silver screen was set in motion when he was awarded a scholarship to the esteemed Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA). There, he was poised to join the ranks of his illustrious peers, Peter OToole and Alan Bates, and later joined the Birmingham Repertory, where his performances of William Shakespeare were lauded. Finney was eventually appointed by the august Royal Shakespeare Company, where he understudied the great Laurence Olivier at Stratford-upon-Avon, and earned renown as the illustrious 'new Olivier'. He first shone in Keith Waterhouse's "Billy Liar" on the London stage, and his film debut was swiftly to follow in The Entertainer (1960). In the 1960s, British cinema shifted its focus to realism, and Finney embodied the rebellious, good-looking anti-heroes of the time in films such as "Saturday Night and Sunday Morning" and "Tom Jones".
