Family Tree

John Irwin McGiver and Boris McGiver, a father-son duo of renowned American actors, come from an esteemed family of second-generation Ukrainian and Irish descent. The elder McGiver, John, held Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English from Fordham, Columbia and Catholic Universities, and trained drama and speech at Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx. John served in the U.S. 7th Armored Division during World War II, after a brief initial flirtation with acting in 1938. His son Boris McGiver, born in upstate New York, pursued a career in acting later than most, having pursued his main goal of attending college for some time before taking to the stage. His notable works include roles in SERVANT (Apple TV), For Life (ABC), Evil (CBS), House of Cards (2013), Person of Interest (2011), The Wire (2002), Lincoln (2012), "TURN: Washington's Spies" (2014), Taxi (2004), and John Adams (2008). The McGivers are an illustrious family, having made a remarkable contribution to the world of acting.
