Biography

The illustrious Carroll Baker was born on May 28, 1931 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to the esteemed William W. Baker, a travelling salesman. Her illustrious career began with a brief marriage and a small part in Easy to Love (1953). After studying at the Actors Studio, she rose to fame with her Oscar-nominated role in Baby Doll (1956). Her star power continued to shine in Giant (1956), The Carpetbaggers (1964) and Harlow (1965). She graced the silver screen in many countries including Italy, England, Germany, Mexico and Spain. In 1982, she married the esteemed Donald Burton and moved to Hampstead, London in the 1980s where they remained until Burton's passing from emphysyma in 2005. Carroll Baker's legacy continues to bring light to the world of film.

Family Tree

From humble beginnings in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Carroll Baker rose to fame and fortune in the golden age of Hollywood. Her iconic performance in Baby Doll (1956) earned her an Oscar nomination and she went on to star in a number of classic films. With her marriage to fellow actor and director Jack Garfein, the couple had a daughter, Blanche Baker, who followed in her parents' footsteps. Blanche made her own mark in the entertainment industry, winning an Emmy for her performance in the miniseries Holocaust (1978) and appearing in a number of films. Jack Garfein was born in Czechoslovakia and went through great adversity to find his place in the US. He was an accomplished stage actor, director and mentor at the Actors Studio. His few film credits include Something Wild (1961) starring his wife Carroll Baker. Blanche was married to Bruce Van Dusen and Wynn Van Dusen, both successful actors, directors and producers in their own right. This royal family of entertainment has a legacy of talent that continues to influence the industry.
