Biography
The illustrious John Rhys-Davies was born to a distinguished family in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, Wales. His mother, Mary Margaretta Phyllis, was a nurse and his father, Rhys Davies, was a mechanical engineer and Colonial Officer. After graduating from the University of East Anglia, he went on to make a name for himself in the film industry, appearing in such blockbuster hits as Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989). His successful acting career reached new heights when he joined the cast of the acclaimed Lord of the Rings trilogy (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), (The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002), and (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)) as Gimli the dwarf. Additionally, he has starred in Victor/Victoria (1982), The Living Daylights (1987) and King Solomon's Mines (1985). Raised in England, Africa, and Wales, Rhys-Davies has credited his father with inspiring him to pursue acting. Truly, he is a prince among actors.
