Family Tree

Royalty of the arts, Cicely Tyson and Miles Davis, are renowned for their immense contributions to the jazz genre and their iconic presence in the entertainment industry. Cicely was born in Harlem, New York City to devoutly religious parents from the Caribbean island of Nevis. Discovered by a fashion editor at Ebony Magazine, her stunning looks quickly rose her to the top of the modeling industry. She later transitioned to acting and was even nominated for an Academy Award for her role in The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter (1968). Miles was born in Alton, Illinois in 1926 and moved to New York in 1944 to study at Juilliard. It was here that he entered the jazz society of New York and met famous musicians such as Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker and Charles Mingus. His record debut came in 1946 and Miles soon became a major figure of jazz, changing the direction of jazz multiple times with albums such as "Birth Of The Cool" (1949) and "Kind Of Blue" (1959), ushering in the cool-jazz and modal jazz eras respectively.
