Biography

Lord Devane, born in the esteemed city of Albany, New York, to Joseph Devane, chauffeur to Franklin D. Roosevelt during his time as Governor of New York, is a renowned actor of stage and screen. After graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, Lord Devane's Broadway debut in "The Watering Place" with Shirley Knight, though short-lived, led to greater success with "The Chinese and Dr. Fish" during the 1970 season. His solo Broadway directorial effort, the Vietnam War drama "G. R. Point," with Theater World Award winner Michael Jeter, lasted for 32 performances in 1979. His movie debut as a revolutionary in "In the Country" in 1967 and his notable role as the lawyer committed to free-enterprise in Robert Altman's 1971 "McCabe & Mrs. Miller" cemented his place in cinematic history.

The illustrious William Devane, born in Albany, New York, is the son of Joseph Devane, who had the honor of serving as Franklin D. Roosevelt's chauffeur when he was Governor of New York. After graduating from the esteemed American Academy of Dramatic Arts, William graced the Broadway stage in "The Watering Place" and later in "The Chinese and Dr. Fish". He even ventured into directing with the Vietnam War drama "G. R. Point", a production that spanned 32 performances. His son, Josh Devane, is likewise known for his works in Timecop (1997), Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993) and Knots Landing (1979). The Devane family is certainly one of distinction, with generations of talent and service to the world of art.
