Family Tree
The illustrious Clarke-Dunfee family boasted a long lineage of esteemed theatrical talent, beginning with patriarch David Clarke, a classic film-noir character actor best known for his roles in The Set-Up (1949), The St. Louis Bank Robbery (1959) and The Narrow Margin (1952). After making his Broadway debut in "Journeyman" in 1938, the talented thespian went on to appear in "Abe Lincoln in Illinois" with Raymond Massey and play at the Biltmore Theatre in Los Angeles, where he was discovered by agent Leland Hayward and subsequently cast in his first film role in Knockout (1941). Through the following five decades, David Clarke appeared in scores of films and TV shows, cementing his legacy as a star of the "Golden Age" of live dramas. His daughter, Nora Dunfee Clarke, also joined the family business, making her theatrical debut in "Under Milk Wood" at the age of eight. A graduate of the first graduating class of Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, Nora's stage credits include "Subject to Fits" (Ensemble Studio Theatre), "A Month in the Country" (Hartford Stage), "The School for Scandal" (Williamstown Theatre Festival) and "The Good Person of Setzuan" (New York Shakespeare Festival). Collectively, the Clarke-Dunfee dynasty has left an indelible mark on the world of theatre for generations.
