Gérard Depardieu is an iconic figure in the French cinema, having established himself as the leading actor of the 80s and 90s and being recognized with the highest French title of "Officier de la Légion d'Honneur". After beginning his career at the Café de la Gare, his popularity grew with his performance in Going Places (1974). He was twice awarded a César as Best Actor for The Last Metro (1980) and Cyrano de Bergerac (1990), with the latter also earning him an Oscar nomination. His talent and legacy have solidified his position as royalty among French cinema.
