Biography

Lady Holland Taylor, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is the third-born daughter of her mother, a respected painter, and the only child of her father, an esteemed attorney. She spent her formative years in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where she gained the nickname, "Penny Taylor" due to her coppery hair color. Lady Holland was educated in Quaker schools and went on to major in drama at Bennington College. At the age of 22 she embarked on a journey to New York with the ambition to become a celebrated Broadway star. After a period of setbacks and missed opportunities, Lady Holland was cast as Ruth Dunbar in the sitcom Bosom Buddies (1980) with Tom Hanks. This was her "breakout" role and it led to many other offers in television and film, such as her acclaimed role as Kathleen Turner's book publisher and friend in Romancing the Stone (1984). Lady Holland was hesitant to accept the role, but her ambition and dedication to her craft has led her to become one of the most distinguished stars of her time.
