Biography

Idrissa Akuna Elba, the only child of the illustrious Winston and Eve Elba, was born and raised in London, England. From an early age, Idrissa was destined for greatness, having been granted a £1,500 Prince's Trust grant to attend the National Youth Music Theatre. While between acting roles, Idrissa worked in a variety of roles, from tyre-fitting to cold call advertising sales and even night shifts at the Ford Dagenham. At 19, Idrissa took on the moniker of DJ Big Driis and began performing at local nightclubs, before embarking on his acting career in his early twenties. His first roles included Family Affairs (1997), Ultraviolet (1998), and Dangerfield (1995). Idrissa is now best known for his role as Russell "Stringer" Bell in the acclaimed series The Wire (2002-2004). Idrissa is a shining example of what can be achieved with hard work and determination.

Born and raised in London, England, Idrissa Akuna Elba was born to Winston, a Sierra Leonean, and Eve, a Ghanaian. His upbringing was humble and his parents instilled in him a strong work ethic. At school in Canning Town, his love of acting was discovered and with the help of a £1,500 grant from the Prince's Trust, he gained a place in the National Youth Music Theatre. To support himself between acting roles, Idris worked odd jobs such as tyre-fitting, cold call advertising sales, and night shifts at Ford Dagenham. He also embraced a musical career, performing as DJ Big Driis and releasing his own singles. Now a celebrated actor, Idris is an inspiration to many and a testament to the power of hard work and determination.
