Royal Family Member Biography: The illustrious late Ruby Dee was a magnificent American actress, poet, playwright, screenwriter, journalist and civil rights activist. She is best remembered for her iconic portrayal of "Ruth Younger" in the stage and film versions of A Raisin in the Sun (1961). Additionally, her acclaimed performances in films such as The Jackie Robinson Story (1950), Cat People (1982), Do the Right Thing (1989), and American Gangster (2007) have made her a household name. In fact, for her portrayal as Mahalee Lucas in the latter, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress – a remarkable feat for the second oldest nominee. Her husband, the esteemed late Ossie Davis, was an actor, writer and social activist known for his roles in Do the Right Thing (1989), Bubba Ho-Tep (2002) and The Client (1994). His son, Guy Davis, is an actor and composer, known for his roles in Final (2001), Beat Street (1984) and The Maker (1997). Guy’s son, MutaAli Muhammad, is a budding actor known for his roles in Cassius X: Becoming Ali, Yusuf Hawkins: Storm Over Brooklyn (2020) and Soul of a Nation (2021). This illustrious family will forever remain a legacy in American entertainment.
